Tour 72 - From Vienna to Prague with 2 hours sightseeing stops in Melk and Durnstein (total 4 hours sightseeing included)

Cesky Krumlov is not the only city we recommend to visit on the way between Prague and Vienna. Melk is a small town on the Danube river. The Melk city is dominated by the Melk Abbey - vast monastery overlooking the whole region. Melk Abbey is one of the biggest European Baroque buildings.

It is possible to walk around the town and the Melk Abbey and do independent sightseeing without a need of a guide or an organized tour. Should you plan to visit the Abbey, during the winter it is only possible with a local guide for additional fees. Guided tours for individuals are offered daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. throughout winter season. During the summer season it is possible to visit the Abbey with or without guide. The entry fee to the Abbey is 12.50 Euro for adults.

Durnstein is another small beautiful town on the Danube river in the Wachau Valley. Surrounded by vineyards and overlooked by the ruins of the Durnstein Castle, Durnstein is nested on the Danube river bank. It is a popular stop for the Danube river cruises. City center is relatively small and one can cover the walk around the town center in about 45 minutes. More time can be spent in the beautiful Durnstein Abbey. From 2019 a new exhibition concept offers a new and different approach to the landmark of the Wachau valley. Durnstein Abbey is a baroque treasure wherein Provost Hieronymus Ubelbacher (1710-1740) brilliantly managed to translate the spirit and faith of the time into the language of architecture. Private tours in English have to be booked in advance. Should you be interested in a guided tour of the Durnstein Abbey, please add a comment into "additional info" field during the booking.
